E-drug: Inquiry on Drug Policy in Bangladesh
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear E-drug colleagues,
In his book "The Politics of Essential Drugs"(1992), Dr.Z.Chowdhury
closed the final chapter with two possible options towards the future
of the Bangladesh drug policy -- either "gradual erosion of National
Drug Policy" or "putting people's health first approach".
I would like to know what happened after 1992 in Bangladesh, who
once was reputed for its ideal National Essential Drug Policy. I have
tried to retrieve information but failed. I would be happy if anyone of
you could give me some ideas of recent developments in the national
drug policy of Bangladesh, especially in relation to multinational
companies and of international organizations like WTO.
Thank you.

[This message may serve as an example in that it is worthwhile to
take a look in the E-drug archives for earlier discussions on a given
subject. A similar question was asked about one year ago and I provi-
ded background info at that time (see below). E-drug archives can be

Re National Drug Policy, Bangladesh is reforming its health sector at
the moment and the need was felt to take a critical look at the drug
policy as well. A systematic review of the policy is planned and,
based on the outcomes, a policy is to be drafted which is more in line
with current realities. To find out about the status of these efforts,
please contact the Director Drug Administration, Dr Md Zahurul
Haque. E-mail: drugs@bdonline.com. HH, E-drug co-moderator]
