[e-drug] International Price Comparisons for drugs

E-drug: International Price Comparisons for drugs
---------------------------------------------
I am currently investigating the methods used in making price
comparisons between countries for drugs with a view to making
recommendations on such methodologies and investigating the
implications on pricing policies and conventions with a particular
emphasis on developing countries.

I am trying to track down any studies, published or unpublished,
which have made such international price comparisons. I would be
grateful if copies could be e-mailed (direct to me) or sent to me at
the address below, or if you could let me know of a contact person.

I am aware of the following studies:
- HAI pricing studies 1998/1999 in Asia and Africa
- MSF HIV/AIDS drugs study report 2000
- New Hampshire, Southern Wisconsin, Maryland, Florida and Vermont
congressional and other reports
- Public Citizen's reports/publications into price discrimination
- General Accounting Office reports
- Dept of HHS Report to the President 2000
- Patented Medicines Price Review Board of Canada publications

Thanks for your help.

[A note of warning but maybe you have already addressed this issue.
People have done international studies and asked what patients pay
for certain drugs in Australia. As you know, patients in Australia
pay $20.60 or $3.20 (if they are pensioners) for drugs on the PBS
list and this price has nothing to do with the price of the drugs.
And the drugs that have been the subject of the studies have only
been available on prescription so there is no 'private' price. There
are other countries, including developing countries, where patients
pay a set price so you need to find a way around this problem. BS]
