[e-drug] Lesotho needs help (pharmacists)! (2)

E-DRUG: Lesotho needs help (pharmacists)! (2)
---------------------------------------------

This problem is not unique to Lesotho as it is also happening in Malawi, Botswana and Namibia. Rwanda has in the recent past recruited Pharmacists from Kenya on a full time basis.

How about the idea of shared resources with countries in the region? Professors from Pharmacy faculties in the region could teach in Lesotho in a visiting/part time capacity and therefore have joint appointments to both institutions. This is a good proposition if you can first recruit the key persons who will remain on the ground and then plan the curriculum around the availability of lecturers from the region..South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya come to mind quickly as possible sources of part time staff

I am sure you have to consider the remuneration huddle that is always a stumbling block in the developing world (hence the brain drain to the North from Africa)

The faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Nairobi, Kenya (dfpharm@uonbi.ac.ke) may be of help.
