E-drug: Magnesium sulphate injection for eclamptic convulsions (cont)
---------------------------------------------
Dear Dr. Manyemba,

Magnesium sulfate is listed in the Philippine National
Drug Formulary and our hospital's (Philippine General
Hospital) formulary. It is the drug immediately given
once a diagnosis of preeclampsia is made in a pregnant
patient with any of the following edema, hypertension
and albuminuria to prevent the convulsion that can
occur with the condition. Thus, it is frequently used
since we try not to wait for eclampsia to occur. It is
likewise available for practioners in our provincial
hospital however, health centers or areas of primary
care do not have access to the drug since it should be
administered with precaution always in a hospital
setting.
