Abstract:
A Medicine Awareness Training (MAT) for Journalists was
conducted for 15 journalists from newspaper and other media
with the objective of improving use of medicines in the
community. The training methods included short lectures,
discussions, demonstrations and group work. There were 15
sessions that were conducted in 22 hours extended over four
days. Training and trainer's manual were used to impart the
training. The training was evaluated before, immediately after
and two months after the training.
There was a significant improvement in knowledge on type of
microbe covered by antibiotics and effectiveness of vitamins/
tonics. Similarly, a significant improvement in knowledge on
precaution for using antibiotics in specific conditions and factors
affecting quality of drugs were also found. The study was
funded by USAID/USPDQI.
