E-drug: Teaching media and drug literacy
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear e-druggers,
I have two questions, which I wonder if anyone can help me with:
1. A couple of us at IHCAR (see below)have been thinking of seeking some
funding to produce some materials for school aiming to simultaneously teach
'media and drug literacy' using coverage of drug issues in the media as
examples, i.e. critical analysis of sources, argumentation, rhetoric,
relevance, completeness of information, etc. Does anyone know if such
materials already exist? Peter Mansfields query, in which he tells of the
Critical Appraisal of Drug Promotion materials gave me the impetus to put
out the question here.
2. Does anyone know of any references for studies of medicinal drug articles
in the general media (editorial content, not advertisements)? I have van
Trigts Making News about Medicines and a couple of others but have not come
up with much in the literature. All advice is welcome. My query is prompted
by the fact that I am currently finalizing my licentiate thesis in which one
paper is a content analysis of drug articles in four Vietnamese newspapers.
Thanking you in advance.
