[e-drug] Mefloquin for malaria prophylaxis (cont)

E-drug: Mefloquin for malaria prophylaxis (cont)
---------------------------------------------

In South Africa the official guidelines published by the Dept of Health
are in the process of being updated.

The current recommendations for chloroquine resistant areas are for
either mefloquine or the combination of chloroquine and proguanil. It is
likely that the new guidelines will replace chloroquine and proguanil
with doxycycline. Malarone is not registered in South Africa.

Many travel medicine specialists no longer recommend chloroquine and
proguanil.
