E-DRUG: NSAIDS - do they differ? (cont.)
-----------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers,
In its last (French) edition, May 1997, la revue Prescrire has
published an comprehensive critical review of meloxicam. Here is my
translation of the summary:
"Several trials, including in all a few thousands patients, have not
shown a significant difference neither of efficacy nor of safety
between meloxicam and other non steroid antiinflammatories such as
piroxicam and diclofenac.
No comparative trial versus paracetamol or ibuprofen is available."
The additional text entitled "Don't mix up attractive hypothesis and
clinical reality: the example of cyclo-oxygenases" is concluded with
"So far, it has not been demonstrated that the in vitro specific
action of cyclo-oxygenase 2 does lead to better clinical tolerance
..."
Meloxicam - Mobic=B0. Revue Prescr 1997; 17(173): 321-324.
English translation of this text should be found in one of the coming
editions of Prescrire International.
