E-DRUG: Re: NSAIDS - do they differ?

E-drug: NSAIDS - do they differ?
------------------------------

Dear Rodolfo;

In the last issue of International Pharmaceutical Journal is a one page
summary of the review done by the MeRec centre in the UK of meloxicam and
aceclofenac. I think you should ask for the full text by fax to:

MeReC Bulletin

The conclusion is that there are no data to suggest that any one NSAID is
more effective than the others. The evidence regarding meloxicam and
aceclofenac suggests that they too are of a similar efficacy to the other
NSAIDs.
No published data are available comparing less toxic NSAIDs, such as
ibuprofen, with meloxicam or aceclofenac. Until published evidence shows an
advantage for these products, ibuprofen remains the agent of choice when an
NSAID is required.

From a note in Scrip no 2234 I understand that the debate is lively and

heated and several companies make poorly documented claims about differences
in GI-effects.
