E-drug: Pharmacy Profession in Kenya (cont)
---------------------------------------------
Hi Prof Kibwage
In South Africa, we have pharmacists and pharmacist's assistants. The
scope of practice of each is controlled by the South African Pharmacy
Council with whom they must register. Registration depends on their
ability to satisfy minimum education requirements (specified by the
Council in terms of legislation) and through the completion of a pre-
registration examination.
Perhaps of greater interest to you is the work that has recently been
undertaken by the Council in specifying the entry level competencies
of both categories. These have been very carefully spelt out and
registered with the South African Qualification Authority. In other
words, their responsibilities and their competence are governed by
legislation.
I suggest that you contact the South AFrican Pharmacy Council for
further information. I believe that it would be useful in addressing
the issues with which you are dealing.
Cheers
Billy
