E-DRUG: Prescription Drug Return Legislation in Maine
-----------------------------------------------------
The Maine Benzodiazepine Study Group is supporting Senator Bromley's LD
1826, An Act to Encourage the Proper Disposal of Expired Pharmaceuticals
http://janus.state.me.us/legis/LawMakerWeb/summary.asp?ID=280012218 ( see
also: www.mainesenate.org/expiredmeds )and will be submitting testimony at
the public hearing. The date has yet to be announced but we expect it to be
in mid-February. This bill creates a system of prescription drug return by
mailer direct from the patient to a post office box monitored by the MDEA.
The contents of the box will be picked up by the MDEA and destroyed. We
encourage interested groups or individuals to submit testimony in support of
the bill, if they are so inclined. The legislation would set up a
first-in-the-nation state-wide approach to ridding ourselves of excess and
often harmful prescription drugs. Address your testimony to the Joint
Committee on Health and Human Services, 100 State House Station, Augusta, ME
04333. Please email a copy to Stevan Gressitt, M.D. at gressitt@uninets.net
and to: Anna Bragdon at amaschino@mainemed.com
