E-DRUG: Promoting the contribution of CBOs towards access to ARVS(5)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Access to medicines by the community through NGOs is one thing. Making sure
that those NGOs have the wherewithal to ensure QUALITY USE OR RATIONAL USE
is another. There already is transmission of HIV resistant to some of the
ARVs in countries like France, USA and Uganda where most people had been
trained to handle these drugs.

We cannot talk about ARVs as if there are a cure to HIV/AIDS. Most people in
Africa south of the Sahara die from HIV/AIDS related diseases such TB. We
should be looking at the role of CBOs/NGOs in the access to essenial drugs.
If the WHO 3 x 5 strategy is succeed ther is need to revisist the ESSENTIAL
DRUGS CONCEPT.

Let us not have a "SAFARI APPROACH" to access to medicines in general, and
ARVs in particular. ARVs are useful poisons!
