Dear Madam/Sir:
1.- Is the oral absorption of furosemide and/or spironolactone affected in
patient with congestive cardiac failure or in patient with secondary
aldosteronism?
Yes. If the congestive heart failure is bad, there is also oedema in the
wall of the intestine which decreases oral absorption of medications.
2.- At this moment, What are the indications of pentoxifiline?
There was a recent meta-analysis on this drug published in the Canadian
Medical Association Journal (Hood SC, Moher D, Barber GG. Management of
intermittent claudication with pentoxifylline: meta-analysis of randomized
controlled trials. Can Med Assoc J 1996;155:1053-1059) The conclusion of
the meta-analysis was that although pentoxifylline can prolong walking
distance by approximately 90 m on level ground, methodological deficiencies
among trials conducted to date mean that a properly conducted large
multicentred clinical trial is required to provide a true estimate of
benefit.
3.- Does anyone know a good article about the use of histamine2-receptor
antagonists and sucralfate ?
Here are a couple of recent articles on these drugs:
Soll AH. Medical treatment of peptic ulcer disease: practice guidelines.
JAMA 1996;275:622-629.
Feldman M, Burton ME. Histamine2-receptor antagonists: standard therapy
for acid-peptic diseases (second of two parts). N Engl J Med
1990;323:1749-1755.
