E-drug: Re: Encouraging pediatricians to prescribe ORS

I headed the Ministry of Health ORT program in Trinidad & Tobago from 1980
to 1989. We initially tried to encourage doctors to do ORT. That failed.
Same sort of reasons as below. We changed tactics and educated the
mothers. Do the same. Forget the docs, they will go with the demand. The
mothers are the critical ones. When they see their children doing better
they will ask for ORT. We dropped the number of admissions to hospitals
for dehydration by 50% within one year and the deaths from GE by 95% within
5 years.
