E-drug: Re: Malaria Prophylaxis in Pregnancy (3)

Mefloquine, despite initial fears of teratogenicity, has been shown to be
remarkably safe in pregnancy.
The consequences of malaria for a pregnant woman (self and foetus) are often
disastrous. Non essential travel to high risk areas for pregnant women is
inviting disaster.

Chloroquine and proguanil seem pretty safe too (advise folate
supplementation) Unfortunately the combination is less effective in
high risk resistant areas.
