E-drug: Re: Need for Info About Possible Funding Agencies (contd)
----------------------------------------------------------

This really is a request for information about drug inventory software
assistance. In the past I remember that IDA put out a similar request and
at that time I recommended the MSH software INVEC. Since then I have seen
quite good systems in Nepal at the UMN warehouse and years ago a simple
system at the Joint Medical Stores in Uganda.

It seems to me that IDA which supplies a lot of the drugs purchased by
NGO's and some of the big donors like Caritas, Misereor, Catholic Mission
services etc. need to get together to define what is needed and then to fund
a basic inventory package ideally modelled on a well functioning system. I
wonder if CMC could coordinate such an effort?

Improving inventory control may make a lot more drugs available than
offering donations alone.

[Note from moderator: I agree with Richard. There is a need for a well
functioning inventory software. From a previous question about this on
E-drug I remember that there were few responses. Many countries had bad
experience with the Swedish programme Swedis. Amongst them Botswana. And for
the new very modern Central Medical Stores which opened a couple of years
ago they bought a software called Triton which is not suitable at all for
materials handling at a large computerised store. So please contact me if
that programme is being offered! Kirsten Myhr]
