E-DRUG: Re Pharmacy Drivers

E-DRUG: Pharmacy Drivers (cont)
-------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

Beware the anecdotal reports and the bias of reporting positive results.

Do we have anecdotal reports of all the things that the drivers missed?

Don't misunderstand, I am not against the use and proper training of
ancilliary staff to complete the team providing pharmaceutical care. I
believe if pharmacy drivers, etc are used, it is important that we (each
individual pharmacist) are very clear about what it is they are expected to
do, what are the limits to that, and that the training is designed to meet
this defined training need. Performance assessment is important both to
feed-back good practice and identify areas that need further training.

I support the idea of providing an evidence base to this service extension
for two reasons. Firstly to test the hypothesis that this group of people
do in fact 'add value' and also to provide additional data to the conention
that pharmacists and their teams are required between the prescriber and
the patient.
