[e-drug] Re: Pricing versus shelflife

E-drug: Re: Pricing versus shelflife
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I sympathise with David Nelson's dilemma in Honduras

In Zimbabwe we also have the same problem . I understood that the extra
cost
was involved in doing accelerated stability studies and that it was too
costly (or too difficult) to do these studies so goods are given only a two
year shelf
life.

In theory a 2 yr shelf life should be adequate but there are so many places
in
the procurement cycle that can causes delays, especially if you are using
donor
funds, that very often the goods arrive with much less than 2 yrs left,
despite
being manufactured for your tender

Can someone outline just how difficult and costly it is to do accelerated
stability studies to enable a more than 2 year shelf life?
