E-drug: Re: Problem manufacturers (cont'd)
----------------------------------------------------------

Hello Turner,

I hope you are doing well. This is a brilliant idea. I support it but the
practical part is difficult. For instance, as of now, the problematic
manufacturers have clearing certificates from the very watch-dog national
bodies or control labs. that had originally implicated them. As a result,
reports on malpractices in the developing world are often dismissed and
distorted as smear campaigns. What do we call this? Corruption or ..?

Nevertheless, this should not stop one from pursuing a noble idea. But one has
to determine how independent this watch-dog body should be. How can it be
shielded from manufacturer's influence? Drug Industries are whisking off almost
every pharmaceutical skilled worker in the developing world offering them
better
remuneration and hope than government. And once these people assume such
responsibilities, their impartiality is questionable. This coupled with the
difficulties in setting up or obtaining information from reference
laboratories or drug control agencies will make it difficult and almost
impossible to start this task. Particularly, notifying a manufacturer of a
malpractice by a drug control agency is different from forwarding the name
for blacklisting. Many are not willing to hand over such (they say
'sensitive') information. What is this called?

The invinsible or inexplicable block of information flow or ...? It is
sensitive
because eventually the manufaturer sells his poor quality product anyway! I
was a victim of a supply of lower concentration (10-20% of the normal) grade of
injectable chloroquine in a certain country by a foreign manufaturer (not South
Africa) who despite the notification and order to withdraw the product, it
was put on market.
