E-DRUG: Re: Pyrazinamide

E-drug: Re: Pyrazinamide
----------------------------------------------------------

At the Royal Adelaide Hospital we have been making a mixture of
Pyrazinamide 500mg in 10ml since 1993 without any problems This is
our information:

Pyrazinamide 500mg tablets X 20
Tragacanth Mucilage X 40ml
Sorbitol Compound Syrup X 50ml
Benzoic acid 5% solution X 4ml
Distilled water to 200ml

Method
1. Finely pulverise the tablets and mix with sufficient water to
produce a smooth magma
2. Add the tragacanth mucilage and a further 50ml water, mix well
3. Add the sorbitol compound syrup, mix well
4. Add the benzoic acid solution, mix well.
5. Make up to volume with distilled water, mix well

We then pack these into 200 ml amber glass bottles and store at room
temperature (ie below 25deg Celsius) The expiry we give is 1 month.
However if the mixture is to be stored by the patient at higher
temperatures, you may wish to reduce this expiry.

NB special notes: pH before preservative is 3.8

Hope this formula is useful.
