E-drug: Reporting Questionable Drug Donations (cont)
---------------------------------------------
It's heartening to have Ms. 't Hoen's agreement that it is important to
report drug donations that fail to meet the recipients' needs. While there
has been a good deal of documentation of such things in the past, the
documentation has almost always been in general terms --e.g., 40% of the
drugs donated in Country X were inappropriate. That information is
important, but much more specificity is required if we are to actually do
something about the matter, i.e., take the information to the responsible
NGO, corporation or government, explain why the donation was judged
inappropriate and both invite comments and offer counsel. When we are able
to do that, good donors and NGOs will no longer be unfairly tarred, those
who behave irresponsibly will be exposed, and best of all, the people we
purport to want to help will be better off.
