E-DRUG: Request for advice on increased hearing sensitivity

Can anyone assist us with the following case-URGENT

We have a 29-yr old female patient who has been on carbamazepine (200mg bd)
for the last 6 years. She is now complaining of increased hearing
sensitivity (up to a level that she requires to use a hearing plug to block
out the excessive sound). There is no history of any other drug being taken.

A physician claimed that this could be due to the drug. Could someone verify
this? We have done a thorough search but could not substantiate this claim.

Thanks in anticipation.

Professor,
This sort of reaction is mentioned in the fine print of the product
monograph under the category "isolated cases". You might try to contact
Ciba-Geigy, the manufacturers of Tegretol brand name.
I would be sure that the patient is not consuming salicylates, though -
including topical preparations.
