E-DRUG: RFI: Oral citrate solutions for renal tubular acidosis patients
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear E-druggers!
I am working as a hospital pharmacist at the children's hospital & the institute of child health, Lahore Pakistan.
I want to do a research project on formulation development of oral citrate solutions (Shohl's solution) that are used for treatment of patients suffering from RTA (renal tubular acidosis).
We prepare these solutions extemporaneously at our dispensing section at the hospital. A number of paediatric patients suffering from this autosomal recessive disorder regularly come for follow-up for prescription refills for shohl's solution.
Actually these solutions are commercially available in the United States and Canada etc but not available in Pakistan yet. The problem comes as they dont have a long shelf life. They cant be dispensed for more than 15 days. Moreover the problem comes with the bitter taste these solutions have because of citrates.
Our project is actually targeted towards development of a formulation that has a longer shelf life and is palatable for children.
If anyone has an experience of working in this area, related to industry or in hospitals, kindly share your experiences.
Regards
