E-DRUG: SAVE THE DATE Presentation/discussion HAI briefing on pricing of medicines, in Europe and beyond.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear e-druggers,

I hope you are well.

Access to medicines is hindered by excessively high prices, and out-of-pocket or reimbursed highly priced medicines constitute a challenge for patients and health systems. Health Action International (HAI) has been actively involved in this issue, collecting evidence, sharing expertise and disseminating knowledge.

As such, we would like to take the opportunity to present to you a new policy brief on the issue of medicine prices that looks at the evolution of the issue in the last five years, with particular focus on the European context. This would also be a chance to discuss with you how the positions and actions of European Union institutions have evolved, as well as look more closely at the experiences of Member States, with the Netherlands and Italy as case studies.

I would be grateful if you could let me know your availability in the week of 22-26 November that we may discuss this important issue with you, and share our insights on transparency, fair pricing and the how to better achieve a workable balance between markets and health needs.

* How has the situation of prices of medicine in the EU evolved in the last five years and what factors are driving it?

* Have the voluntary inter-country cooperation efforts, such as the Beneluxa or the Valletta Declaration, achieved their stated goals and what could be the next steps for such initiatives?

* How should Civil Society respond to the medicine prices debate and what initiatives are worth pursuing?
