E-drug: Seminar on the Ethics of Research related to Healthcare in
Developing Countries
---------------------------------------------
Externally-sponsored research conducted in developing countries can raise
difficult ethical issues. The Nuffield Council on Bioethics established a
Working Party to examine these issues in 2000, and is now publishing its Report
on the topic. The report will be launched on the morning of Thursday 25 April
2002 and will be followed by a Seminar which will provide an opportunity to
discuss the Reports recommendations with members of the international Working
Party. The Seminar is CME approved (3 credits).
The programme will include discussion about consent to research, standards of
care in research, ethical review of research and what happens once research is
over.
Members of the Working Party who will be speaking include: Professor Sir
Kenneth Calman, Dr Fred Binka, Professor Michael Elves, Professor V Mathan,
Professor Keith McAdam, Professor David Parkin, Professor Povl Riis, Mrs
Shahwar Sadeque, Professor Peter Smith and Dr Fabio Zicker.
