E-DRUG: Short term consultancy - STGs in Southwest Algeria
----------------------------------------------------------

Dear colleagues,

For many years, Medico International has been supporting the health system in the refugee camps of the Sahrawi People in Southwest Algeria, close to the border of Western Sahara, currently with the procurement of essential medicines, including the support of the documentation and distribution system, funded by the European Commission Humanitarian Office (ECHO).

Part of this program is now the revision and update of Primary Health Care Treatment Guidelines as a reference source for the multiple health actors - both local and international - in the camps.

Please find the announcement for a short term consultancy in this project below, we would be happy if one of readers of E-drug might be interested or could forward the email to potential applicants.

Best regards

Short Term Consultancy

In the context of the project: “Supply of medicines and consumables to Saharawi Refugees in camps near Tindouf/Algeria” we are looking for an expert who can support and finalize the revision of Therapeutic Guidelines. The first edition of the guidelines was developed and published in 2002, the language of the Guidelines is Spanish, since it is the second working language of the health system in the camps, which is run by local doctors, nurses and health workers and supported by Cuban and Spanish health professionals on a regular basis.

During the year 2012 a process of revision of the basic documents for the use of pharmaceutical products (National Essential Drug List, Guidelines for management and documentation of medicines in the camps, Treatment Guidelines) was initiated by MoH and medico international during which a revised List of Essential Medicines and comments to the Guia have been gathered by a joint working group of Saharaui and expatriate experts until now.

The next and final step would be to discuss the results and propositions and finalize the results in a new version of the Treatment Guidelines during a workshop of 3 – 4 days in the camps in February 2013 .

We are looking for:

- A medical doctor with experience in public health issues in developing countries, regional and cultural knowledge would be an asset
- Very good command of Spanish, English, German or French would be an asset
- Excellent communication, facilitation and negotiation skills
- Ready to stay for about 7 days in a desert environment with simple living conditions
