E-DRUG: Sub-Saharan Pharmaceutical Registration Policy

E-drug: Sub-Saharan Pharmaceutical Registration Policy
----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings from Johannesburg. My name is Tom Wagner, operations director
of 'Affordable Medicines For Africa' (AMFA). One of the greatest chal-
lenges we are starting to face throughout the continent of Africa is
the emergence of national pharmaceutical registration policies. This is
no easy obstacle to tackle; just discovering who to talk to consumes
large amounts of time and energy. Therefore, we are requesting informa-
tion any of you might have regarding pharmaceutical registration in
each sub-Saharan African country. This information can range from whom
to contact in the government to the cost of registration to actual reg-
istration forms. We would greatly appreciate any help you might offer
in this arena.

For those of you who are curious and/or interested, please allow me to
give you a little background on AMFA. AMFA is a not-for-gain Christian
wholesale distributorship formed a little over two years ago. We pro-
vide affordable essential generic medicines to those health workers who
administer healing to the poor. Over the past two years we have worked
diligently to build a foundation on this continent, and today we are
confident that a functional system has evolved.

Registered in South Africa, our base is in Johannesburg. From here we
are prepared to serve sub-Saharan Africa with quality, competitively
priced pharmaceuticals and with a total commitment to customer service.
AMFA's goal goes beyond simply providing essential generic medicines at
an affordable price. While AMFA is constantly working to source medi-
cines at a lower cost, we do not want to compete for business solely on
a price basis. We feel the greater need is to provide excellent cus-
tomer service through "Just-In-Time" (JIT) ordering and delivery, re-
sulting in streamlined inventory management and greatly reduced operat-
ing costs for our customers. The fact that we can provide the service
from Africa using African manufactured pharmaceuticals and supplying
from within Africa makes this possible. AMFA's system begins to send a
message throughout Africa that solutions to the continent's healthcare
problems can come from Africa itself.

Thank you for your time and interest. Please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Tom Wagner
