E-drug: Unethical promotion of pharmaceuticals
---------------------------------------------
In 'developing' countries, because of lax regulations, the industry has
almost a free hand for promotion of its products. By enticing the
prescribers and sponsoring their conferences they develop a symbiosis
which ultimately works against the interests of the patients. Unethical
promotion by pharmaceutical manufacturers has been the hallmark of their
marketing strategies.
We are working on a methodology for monitoring unethical marketing
practices of pharmaceutical products in Pakistan,
and intend to use "WHO criteria for marketing Medicinal Drug Promotion"
as a bench mark for the study.
We would like to know of any such study carried out and sharing of any
methodological learnings based on such study will be highly appreciated.
