E-DRUG: UNICEF SD vacancy: prototype testing of the PMTCT Mother-Baby Pack

Dear Colleagues,
UNICEF, the world's leading organization working for the rights and needs
of children, is urgently looking for consultants interested in being
short-listed for a possible short term consultancy to assist for a period
not exceeding 40 working days, spread over 2 months in August and
September 2009, to lead the final design and testing of the PMTCT
Mother-Baby-Pack (MBP) external packaging and related information package.
The MBP is an innovative product aimed at facilitating the scale-up and
increased uptake of more efficacious ARV prophylactic regimens for PMTCT
and Co-trimoxazole prophylaxis in resource-limited settings in line with
WHO Treatment guidelines.
1-Main Objective:
Lead the design, development and testing of the MBP external packaging and
related information package, in collaboration with UNICEF staff.
2-Specific Objectives:
Develop technical specifications for the external packaging of the MBP
(including instructions and pictograms) jointly with UNICEF SD.
To work with the pharmaceutical manufacturer selected by UNICEF SD in the
development of an external packaging. This external packaging prototype
should be suitable to be tested during a prototype testing exercise in 3
selected countries and validated by UNICEF.
To develop the protocol and tools that respond to the objectives of the
prototype testing, in consultation with UNICEF SD.
To participate jointly with UNICEF in in-country preparatory work, to
design the overall process of the prototype testing and to identify of the
sites.
To develop the prototype testing protocol and tools for data collection.
To perform usability testing, using appropriate methods to find out the
effectiveness and efficiency with which end-users End-users refers to HIV+
pregnant women, health workers or any person dealing with the MBP at one
point of the supply chain, including policy makers and central medical
stores can work with the MBP to achieve the desired objectives
To assess the acceptability of the MBP prototype among end-users during a
prototype testing in 3 selected countries.
To use the user-performance and acceptance data to provide solutions to
refine the MBP and eliminate any problems identified during the user
interface interactions, thereby optimizing the MBP design.
3-Expected results
Technical specifications (including external pack, patient instruction and
pictograms) of the MBP developed jointly with UNICEF SD.
MBP prototype created and prototypes available to conduct the field
testing in 3 selected countries.
Prototype testing protocol and data collection tools developed.
Constraints and bottlenecks of the use of the MBP in resource limited
settings by the end-users are identified and documented.
Feasibility of MBP use assessed in resource- limited settings.
MBP prototype finalized by using Recommendations collected from end-users
in resource- limited settings.
4-Requirements for the consultant
Education
Advance degree in pharmacy, medicine, international public health or a
relevant discipline.
Experience
Significant, extensive and relevant experience in pharmaceutical or health
related product development, including, iterative design, usability
testing and validation.
Significant experience, with demonstrated success and focus in
Pharmaceutical Supply Management and/or related project management
particularly in resource limited settings
Demonstrated success in operations research
Proven experience in organizing, presenting and managing high level
meetings
Competencies, skills and abilities
Strong technical knowledge, conceptual and analytical ability
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Energetic and creative mindset.
Excellent organizational, planning and facilitation skills
Knowledge and understanding of health systems in resource limited
settings, including challenges and how to mitigate against them.
Good understanding of HIV in general, and more specifically in Prevention
of Mother To Child Transmission (PMTCT) and Pediatric Care and Support.
Ability to create linkages and work with government personnel, and other
international organizations.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
Fluency in English required. In addition, knowledge of French preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft office suite applications including Word,
Excel, PowerPoint and Email
5-Submission of proposals

assignment to achieve the desired outputs.
