E-drug: Vacancy at HAI Europe
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

HAI Europe has received notice that the current work permit for Co-director
(Projects) is valid for only one more year. The authorities believe that
this position can be filled by a European and, according to the conditions
set out in the current work permit renewal, we are required to actively
search for a replacement through our usual channels. The job description is
posted below. Please distribute it widely. If you have questions about
this position, please contact Kevin Moody, Co-director (Campaign), HAI
Europe: kevin@haiweb.org

HAI Europe is seeking a Co-Director for Projects for its European office
based in Amsterdam. Start date: April 1, 2004

HAI Europe is part of the larger HAI network, which comprises four regions
internationally. HAI is a non-profit network of over 200 consumer, health
development action and other public interest groups and individuals involved
in health and pharmaceutical issues in 70 countries around the world. HAI
actively promotes more rational use of medicines and believes that all
medicines should meet real medical needs, have therapeutic advantages, be
acceptably safe and offer value for money.

The Co-Directors responsibilities include: identifying projects for the HAI
network; developing annual project work programmes and implementing
projects; managing budgets; liaising with HAI members on potential projects
and regularly communicating progress on projects; campaigning on project
outcomes to appropriate organisations and institutions; sharing management
tasks and responsibilities and representing the regional network at
international fora.

The successful candidate should be a registered pharmacist or hold a
university degree in public health (eg. medicine / pharmacy). He/She should
possess proven project management skills (including financial management);
international experience in working on projects, particularly those
involving the WHO and groups and individuals from developing countries;
experience in lobbying policy members on medicines issues; experience in
working with a volunteer, member-based health policy organisation; proven
experience in developing comprehensive campaigns based on sound analysis and
policy development; proven donor-relations skills, including fundraising,
reporting and networking with (potential) donors, such as international
NGOs, foundations, and national governments; proven human resources
management skills; and fluency in both written and spoken English.
Experience working with a drug regulatory agency is a plus, as is prior
experience working on issues related to medicines-related direct-to-consumer
advertising and medicines pricing policies.

HAI Europe offers a pleasant, informal working environment. Salary for this
position is comparative to other NGO positions and will be commensurate to
the candidates education and experience. This senior position is for 36
hours a week and extensive travel will be required. The start date is set
for April 1, 2004.

Applicants should send their CV in English with a cover letter outlining
their relevant experience before 15 September. Because of EU immigration
rules, EU residents will be given preference for this position. For more
information, contact the HAI Europe office at e-mail: info@haiweb.org ,
