E-DRUG: vacancy Fiji January 2005
---------------------------------
Hullo e-druggers!
I will be leaving my position as Coordinator of the Bachelor of Pharmacy
program at the Fiji School of Medicine at the end of 2004 academic year.
This posting is to request expressions of interest in the position, so that
those persons could be contacted by Email when the position is advertised.
Please reply to me directly and not to e-drug.
The Fiji School of Medicine (FSM) has a proud history of more than 110
years, in health service education. FSM Degrees are awarded by the
University of the South Pacific (USP) under a memorandum of understanding.
We will be occupying our new campus in Suva, towards the end of 2004 and
will then enjoy state-of-the-art lecture rooms, student computer facilities,
laboratories and library.
A team leader, eligible for pharmacist registration in Fiji, is required to
guide the newly implemented Bachelor of Pharmacy program. The successful
candidate should have a strong background in pharmacy practice, enthusiasm
for professional development, and some experience of teaching at either
undergraduate or postgraduate level. The four-year degree program has an
intake of approximately 30 students per year from the Pacific Region and
will produce the first B.Pharm. graduates at end of 2005. The program
content is suitable for the Pacific Region but of international standard
with a clinical practice-based focus, rather than a more traditional
technical orientation. Teaching is in small groups.
Pharmacy Academic Staff include in addition to the Coordinator, two Lecturer
I positions, three Lecturer II positions, one Laboratory Technician, one
Laboratory Attendant, plus five part-time practitioner Adjunct Lecturers.
Employment is offered on a three-year contract basis at a negotiable salary
of approximately $F65,000 per annum, with four weeks annual leave per year.
Subsidised government housing (furnished) will be available at a rental of
approximately $F550 per month. Funded airfare and relocation expenses are
provided for the Pharmacy Coordinator and her/his family at beginning and
end of contract. Fiji is a tropical paradise with the usual challenges which
one finds in low income economies. If you want professional satisfaction and
an adventure, this could be it!
