E-DRUG: WHO Essential Medicines Bi-annual Report 2006-07
--------------------------------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

I am pleased to inform you that we have just issued the Essential Medicines 2006-2007 Biennial Report, on the work of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the area of essential medicines and pharmaceutical policies.

http://www.who.int/medicines/areas/access/biennial_report06_07/en/index.html

The report, for which the web-link has been included above, provides a summary of the many ongoing activities of the past two years, including developing global quality standards for new essential medicines and the prequalification of 65 priority medicines; tailor-made technical support in over 80 developing countries; and the marking of the 30-year anniversary of the WHO Model List with the issue of the first WHO Model List of Essential Medicines for Children.

The biennium also saw the launch of the International Medical Products Anti-Counterfeiting Taskforce (IMPACT), extensive involvement in the Inter-Governmental Working Group on Innovation, Public Health and Intellectual Property (IGWG), and our active participation in UN inter-agency medicine policy coordination and new global initiatives such as UNITAID. The report will also be made available in French and Spanish.

More information and all documents issued by the programme are available on our web-site: http://www.who.int/medicines
