[e-drug] WHO Medicines Strategy 2000-2003

E-drug: WHO Medicines Strategy 2000-2003
---------------------------------------------
Essential drugs save lives and reduce suffering. Poor quality drugs kills.
Medicines represent the highest out-of-pocket household expenditure in
low-income countries. Yet medicines are too often unavailable,
unaffordable, unsafe, or used irrationally.

Working first from a country perspective and with a variety of development
partners, WHO has developed a WHO Medicines Strategy as a framework for
action in essential drugs and medicines policy for 2000 - 2003. The
State is now available (hard copy upon request or pdf
http://www.who.int/medicines).

WHO Medicines Strategy 2000 - 2003 aims to provide a one-WHO approach
for the pharmaceutical work, and a framework for action with
countries and other partners. It describes global progress in the
field of pharmaceuticals,
challenges yet to be addressed, and expected outcomes for 2000 -
2003. The development of this strategy involved a consultation with
over 60 countries, institutions, and WHO programmes.

This strategy is meant to be used as a dynamic and active tool in the
implementation of our activities, in collaboration with the countries we
serve. We invite you hereby to send us any comments or questions to
Dr Guitelle Baghdadi (baghdadig@who.ch or tel +4122 7912989).

Looking forward hearing from you,
