HQ/DLT Diagnostics and Laboratory Technology (HQ/DLT) OBJECTIVES OF THE
PROGRAMME :
The overall goal of the Essential Health Technologies (EHT) department of
WHO is to provide equitable access to cost effective solutions to health
problems in the context of primary health care approach. The Diagnostics and
laboratory technology (DLT) within the department of EHT promotes and
facilitates access to safe and appropriate diagnostic technologies and
services through advocacy and policy, prequalification, bulk procurement
arrangements, selection and appropriate use of diagnostics, quality
assurance systems and strengthening national regulatory and laboratory
programmes. DLT's global activities aim at ensuring that laboratories and
diagnostic services are accessible, available at reasonable cost, used
appropriately and are provided within a sustainable health care system.
Description of duties:
1. To assist with the Prequalification of Diagnostics Programme for high
burden diseases such as
HIV, malaria and hepatitis with emphasis on the follow up of applications
and dossiers of
diagnostic products received;
2. To assist with the review of applications and support information sharing
on PQ status;
3. To search for information on regulatory capacity for in-vitro medical
devices, in particular for HIV, malaria,hepatitis B and hepatitis C
diagnostics in resource limited countries;
4. To perform related duties to support the needs of the DLT team. REQUIRED
QUALIFICATIONS Education:
Essential: A university degree in a related health science, such as biology,
biochemistry, laboratory sciences, biomedical engineering.

Having technical knowledge of in-vitro diagnostic medical devices, related
to HIV, malaria, HCV and HBV and their regulatory context. Good analytical
skills. Proven ability to conduct searches and compile reports. Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural
and multi-disciplinary environment. Motivation to work in an international
environment and in a team. Computer literacy in standard office
applications, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Experience:
Essential:
At least 1 year work experience in the area of in-vitro diagnostic medical
devices, HIV, malaria, HCV, in particular screening of applications and
product dossiers. Proven ability to conduct searches and compile reports.
Desirable:
Understanding of resource-limited countries. Understanding of diagnostic
technologies and regulatory requirements. Experience working within the UN
system would be an asset. Motivation to work in an international environment
and as part of a team. Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English. Good working knowledge of French and Spanish
an asset. Additional Information:
A written test may be used for screening purposes.

USD 37'154 at single rate
USD 39'388 with primary dependants Post Adjustment: 115.5 % of the above
figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since
variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency
exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
