E-DRUG: Trust & Ethical Laws (cont)
-----------------------------------
I have always believe and from the unpublished research I have done, have
seen that face to face counseling when empowering the patient, that is,
using the model where the pharmacists does not duplicate information by
telling the patient what they already know, but educate and add to the
patient's knowledge leads to better compliance in the beginning. Thus the
importance of counseling on refills to reinforce and continue the
educational process. To take this a step further, the use of a private
area, thus decreasing distractions also adds benefit to this process. I
personally feel that you lose alot, (non-verbal part), when counseling if
you can not see how the person reacts when you communicate with them.
My background is 21 years in the Indian Health Service providing care to
patients. I developed the Pharmacist-Patient Consultation Program
distributed by Pfizer.
