CDG Internet Workshop
---------------------

Internet as a possibility to improve communication for private organisa-
tions

August 18th to 22th, 1997
Harare, Zimbabwe

Dear Sir/Madam,

New information technologies are in the centre of deep social changes in
almost all regions of the world. Internet and Multimedia are probably the
key technologies for the economic and social development of the first dec-
ades of the 21th Century. Information has become the 4th basic economic
factor. Developing countries have to get involved in the Internet communi-
cation now in order to prepare their role in the international information
society. The Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft (CDG) therefore planed a new
training concept dedicated to new information an communication technolo-
gies.

CDG is a German non-profit organisation which carries out advanced profes-
sional training for developing countries on behalf of the Federal Ministry
for Economic Co-operation and Development. The objective is to support the
economic and social growth in these countries, to strengthen the co-
operation with Germany and to promote the South-South exchange.

The CDG workshop on "Internet as a possibility to improve communication for
private organisations" is one of the first activities in Southern Africa in
these new training field. Since non governmental organisations (NGO's)
played the role of the avantgarde users of the Internet in developing coun-
tries, it seems useful to offer training in information technologies to
them. Private organisations can especially profit by Internet technology
they can build up networks that do not depend on physical infrastructure as
roads and transportation systems. Therefore, training in networking is
highly effective and future oriented.

already networking experience and other organisations that are in the proc-

ences or are interested in establishing a network. The organisations that
