[afro-nets] Fellowships on Sexuality and Education

Fellowships on Sexuality and Education in Sub-Saharan Africa
------------------------------------------------------------

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) based
in Nairobi, Kenya is an international non-profit, non-govern-
mental organization committed to conducting high quality and
policy relevant research on population and health issues facing
sub-Saharan Africa.

Through funding from the Ford Foundation's Education and Sexual-
ity Program, the Center seeks to facilitate development of sci-
entific research on sexuality in sub-Saharan Africa. The program
is aimed at strengthening scholarly capacity to investigate the
notions and perceptions of sexuality, the process of learning,
and transmission of sexuality knowledge across generations in
the region. The program is expected to lead to a better under-
standing of the linkages between socialization, education and
sexuality and promote the utilization of credible evidence in
addressing various sexual and reproductive health problems af-
fecting sub-Saharan Africa, especially among adolescents and
pre-teens. To accomplish these goals, the Center will offer up
to four residential sabbatical fellowships to experienced Afri-
can scholars for periods of up to six months and one post-
doctoral fellowship to a recently graduated African scholar for
a period of two years.

Eligibility

tual and methodological issues in the field of sexuality and to
guide the development of scientific research on the interface
between education and sexuality. The scholars will take up resi-
dential fellowships at APHRC for a period of four to six months
when they will be expected to write at least one publishable pa-

participate in an international conference on education and
sexuality in sub-Saharan Africa.

Post-doctoral Fellowship

Candidates for the two-year postdoctoral fellowship must have
completed their doctoral studies within the last two years, done
