APHRC offers a wide range of career opportunities. It seeks to

tional research capacity in Africa. The Center provides a very

Current Vacancies

The following positions are currently available at the Center
for three-year (renewable) contracts and will be based at its
headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya:
* Public/Community Health Specialist/Epidemiologist (Medical
background preferred);

* Economist/Health Economist (with concentration in poverty
analysis or healthcare financing);

* Qualitative Expert (with good understanding of quantitive
methods);

* Urban Expert (with concentration in urban systems and urban
policies);

* Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist (with strong survey and
sampling experience);

* Policy Analyst (experience in translating research to policy).

Each of these positions require a PhD in a relevant health or
social science field (generally demography, economics, public
health, environmental science, statistics, sociology or anthro-
pology) and may be filled at the Senior Research Scientist, Re-
search Scientist, Associate Research Scientist, or postdoctoral
fellow levels depending on professional post-doctoral experience
(at least 7 years for a Senior Research Scientist; at least 5
years for a Research Scientist, 2-3 years for the Associate Re-
search Scientist, and up to two years following graduation for
postdoctoral Fellows).

Principal Functions

Successful candidates are expected to make significant contribu-
tion to the Center's overall mission and the relevant field of
research specialization by developing and managing scientific
policy-relevant projects, disseminate research findings to pol-
icy and scientific audiences, and provide expert technical ad-
vice to partner governmental and non-governmental institutions.
The Center's research focuses on addressing contemporary popula-
tion, health, and poverty issues affecting African countries.

Qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate must have an inner drive for research excel-
lence evidenced by a strong record of publication of policy-
relevant papers addressing population, health and poverty issues
in sub-Saharan Africa in leading peer-reviewed journals in the
social and/or health sciences. In addition, he/she must have:

* Strong experience in project design and implementation in Af-
rica;

* Demonstrated capacity to work within a collaborative frame-
work, both with individuals and institutions and within a multi-
disciplinary, and multi-cultural setting;

* Strong computer literacy with experience using a variety of
quantitative and qualitative software packages;

* Fluency in written and spoken English and/or French. Candi-
dates whose primary official language is French must have a
strong working knowledge and communication skills in English;

* Extensive fundraising experience and familiarity with the
relevant donor community is required for the Senior Research
Scientist level.
