Health Systems 20/20 is pleased to host a satellite event on
July 22, 1:30-3:30, Mini Room 5 (Rm 201 in South Building Level 2), at the International AIDS Conference. The Sustainability of Resources for HIV/AIDS Response in a Challenging Economic Climate session, moderated by John Osika, Senior HIV/AIDS Advisor for Health Systems
20/20, features panelists representing the donor, NGO/PLWH,
government, and human rights perspective.
Panelists:
* Roxanna Rogers, Director, Office of HIV/ AIDS, Bureau of Global Health, USAID
* Regina Ombam, Head of Strategy Development, Kenyan National AIDS Control Council
* Evelyn Letio, Program Officer, South Sudan Network of People Living with HIV
* Eric Friedman, Law Fellow at the ONeill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University
HIV/AIDS control efforts have seen dramatic local and international responses over the last few decades. Prominent are efforts funded by the U.S. Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. Given the current challenging international economic environment, the sustainability of gains made so far in the scale-up of HIV/AIDS services are at risk. Risks include the scaling down of services with potential adverse outcomes, including increased antiretroviral resistance. Health Systems 20/20, utilizing the HIV/AIDS Sustainability Analysis Tool (HAPSAT), has been working with partner countries to better understand the resources needed to sustain the HIV/AIDS response over time.
