INASP-Health
------------
"Providing access to reliable health information for health workers
in developing countries is potentially the single most cost-effective
and achievable strategy for sustainable improvement in health care."
[British Medical Journal 1997; 314: 90]
INASP-Health's mission is to strengthen and support the activities of
organizations worldwide towards the common goal of providing univer-
sal access to reliable information for healthcare workers in re-
source-poor countries.
INASP-Health is a specific programme within the International Network
for the Availability of Scientific Publications, itself a programme
of the Committee for the Dissemination of Scientific Information
(CDSI) of the International Council for Science (ICSU).
Advisory and Referral Network
INASP-Health promotes collaboration and sharing of expertise and ex-
perience through its advisory and referral network, which involves
more than 500 organizations and individuals, North and South. Part-
ners are kept up to date with current events in the field through the
INASP Newsletter.
Health Information Forum
INASP-Health runs a series of 2-monthly workshops in the UK, with
guest speakers from developing countries and e-mail contributions
from health librarians and information workers worldwide. The empha-
sis of the meetings is to support and help those involved in health
information work, to encourage greater coordination and collabora-
tion, and thereby achieve more effective working strategies. Future
meetings include:
* November 14, 2000: Computer-based training and distance learning
* January 16, 2001: Donation and distribution of books and journals
* March 6, 2001: Annual Open Forum
* May 15, 2001: Adapting source information to the end user
* July 17, 2001: HIF review and way forward
All workshops take place at the British Medical Association, London,
registration at 15.30h. Participation is free thanks to complimentary
facilities provided by the BMA. Contact <INASP_Health@compuserve.com>
to reserve your place.

INASP-Health publishes a directory of contact details and profiles of
