RFI: African Health Sectors and Management of Health Services
-------------------------------------------------------------
To AFRO-NETS members!
I am writing to inform you of a research project being undertaken by
the international team at GPC/O'Neill & Associates in Boston, MA
(USA). Over the next month, we will be conducting an in-depth analy-
sis of all health sectors & ministries in Africa, particularly infor-
mation regarding the quality of health ministries and political lead-
ership in these countries.
With your help, we hope to collect data on African health sectors to
inform investment strategies of our clients. We hope to identify
countries where health-related firms may make wise investments to es-
tablish service networks, new capacities and other forms of involve-
ment. To gather information, we would like to post the following five
questions on AFRO-NETS. We welcome diverse opinions to provide depth
to this research. The questions are:
1. Which African countries have good health plans to develop hospi-
tals and health-related services?
2. Which African countries have solid political leadership in the
health ministry to ensure good planning and continuity in the
health sector? What is the level of the country's leadership com-
mitment to the health sector?
3. Which countries have the basic infrastructure in place to support
development of higher quality health services?
4. Which countries are at risk of a crisis in the management of
health care services?
5. If you were to rate African Health Ministries, which top five
countries would you chose?
We would appreciate greatly your attention to this survey and would
value any advice you might be able to provide. We are looking to re-
ceive all information by Dec. 1, 1999.
Thank you in advance for you time and we look forward to hearing from
you and members of AFRO-NETS soon.
Sincerely,
Carline M. Dorcena
