RFI: Public Health Research in Nigeria
--------------------------------------

Hello,

This summer I plan to go to Nigeria to help with some clinical
research. However, I would like to do a public-health-type pro-
ject while I’m there as well. Are there any pressing public
health needs of the patient population of Nigeria? In particular
women and children? I have some ideas, but since I’ve been told
I was “young and naïve” before, I’d like to get some insight.

Thanks,

Depending on the region of Nigeria that you're visiting for your
clinical research, the best advise is to make contact with a lo-
cal university department of public health and learn what ongo-
ing public health research is available to participate in. That
would be far more productive than attempts to formulate a pro-
ject of your own.

If you need help with making contacts, feel free to revert.

Best,

Hi Ade,

Well done! Please do not let anyone despise your youth. Your own
ideas are also best pursued because that will give you more pas-
sion and at the end of the day joy. In what area of health are
you based and where will you be based in Nigeria? I am a clini-
cal pharmacist and I try to facilitate research and even train-
ing from our colleagues abroad. I have a clinical pharmacy out-
let and do a bit of research myself. I came back to live in Ni-
geria recently. I even placed an ad in the Pharmaceutical Jour-
nal so that those people like you interested in research can get
in touch. Please if you don't mind send your CV and let me know
your specific areas and I may be able to refer you to the right
person(s) even if we cannot work together.

Best wishes,
