Video-conference on HIV/AIDS Capacity-Building and Local Knowledge
------------------------------------------------------------------
Sept. 8-9, 2005

Dear friends,

Let me take this opportunity to extend an invitation to you all
to the video-conference on capacity-building to integrate local
knowledge in management of HIV/AIDS.

This conference is on 8 to 9 of September in these countries:
Tanzania, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and
Mozambique, plus GDLN centres in Accra and Colombo.

The main objectives of this two day training dialogue is to
train the National AIDS Commission staff and other stakeholders
involved in combating HIV/AIDS in community-based responses to
prevention, voluntary counseling and testing, treatment and
care. The emphasis will be on demonstrating how the use of local
knowledge and expertise has contributed to improving the effec-
tiveness of HIV/AIDS programs on the ground. The objective of
the course is to help project teams integrate local knowledge
into the design of their MAPS.

CONTENT:

The dialogue will center around providing a select group of
health practitioners and policy makers with a 'hands on' guide
to the use of local knowledge in the development process. This
will be done through lectures by local practitioners and experts
who will share their lessons of experience from successful
health projects in Africa.

For those who want to take part in this programme, please con-
tact with Global Distance Learning Center in your country, or go
to local World Bank offices for more details.
