E-DRUG: Azithromycin, Fluconazole and Nevirapine in India?
----------------------------------------------------------
[Probably generated by our quick response re registration in USA, here's
question about patent status in India. Any e-drugger knows a quick way to
check this? WB]
Dear e-druggers,
What is the patent status of the following drugs in India?
(a) Azithromycin, the antibiotic version of Pfizer's Zithromax.
(b) Nevirapine, the genericversion of Boehringer Ingelheim's Viramune.
(c) Fluconazole, the generic version of Pfizer's Diflucan.

[India had process patents until 1996, so several generic manufacturers also
have patents in addition to the originators.
MSF publication "Patents under the spotlight" is strongly recommended: see
http://www.accessmed-msf.org/documents/patents_2003.pdf (3 MBytes, however!)
Fluconazole has come off-patent in most countries in 2002, so likely also in
India.
Any Indian E-drugger who can answer the specific questions? Is there a
specific database of Indian patents that is searchable? WB}
