Dear E-drug friends,
We would like to be in contact with people (or organisations) who have been
involved in setting up central medical stores or other drug procurement
systems in EE/NIS countries. At the moment we try, together with health
professionals in south-west Georgia, to start such an organisation.
In the Soviet period 'Central Medical Stores' (Centralnaya Apthetsnaya
Basa) existed but it is very unlikely that these state-run organisations
will play a role in Georgia as health care reforms are directed towards
rationalisation, privatisation and a smaller controlling and regulating
MOH.
Our first experiences show that the idea that a private non-profit
organisation could exist is completely new. Georgia is organised by
state-run institutions or private profit sector. Legislation and tax
regulations seem not to be adapted to non-profit organisations.
