E-DRUG: Drug donations for Turkey (cont)
----------------------------------------
Dear Philippa, Dear Gill and other colleagues,
I am also seriously worried about Turkey. Let's not forget that
Turkey has its own well-run pharmaceutical industries with large
export interests - so they can probably cope themselves to a large
extent.
But there is another problem - There are two good Essential Drugs
Lists for Turkey, one dates back to 1992 from a large UNDP
programme for restructuring the pharmaceutical sector, but just
before the programme was finished the project was closed down
because of a change of government. This list is available from
WEMOS, but because of its history it has no official status.
[see http://www.drugdonations.org WB]
The other list was made by the Turkish Medical Association in 1997
(?) but was rejected by the government. It would be very interesting
to obtain this list, screen it and use it.
At least it is known to some extent what kind of drugs are used by
Turkish physicians and therefore what is needed. The main problem
is getting hold of those lists and putting them at NGO's disposal.
Who takes the initiative?
Best wishes,
Dr.L.Offerhaus
