E-DRUG: Re: Essential drugs list and donations - Turkey (cont)
--------------------------------------------------------------

Kees de Joncheere (WHO/EURO) and I received a long fax
message from Professor Oktay that drugs are in principle NOT
needed. There is no valid list, and if somebody wants to send drugs
they should follow the last WHO EDL. The MoH in Ankara is now
discussing with the local physicians what is needed and they will
produce a brief list shortly - if needed.

So the general advice is: Wait and see, and

DO NOT SEND ANY DRUGS UNTIL WE GET A POSITIVE SIGNAL FROM ANKARA.

[clear signal! Let's avoid the disastrous donations that arrived in
Mostar, Kosovo, Albania etc. But I still think that every country (incl
Turkey) should identify a list of essential drugs for normal and
emergency health care... WB]
