E-DRUG:Drug promotion & (ir)rational prescribing(3)

----------------------------------------------------

I can give some references to previously published literature on
this topic:

Yudkin JS. The economics of pharmaceutical supply in Tanzania.
Int J Hlth Serv 1980;10:455-77.

Melrose D. Double deprivation: public and private drug
distribution from the perspective of the Third World poor.

Johnston TS. Provision of medicines in Ecuador. Lancet 1980
;1:1073-4.

The above references deal with the effect of sampling on hospital
prescribing. There are some other references on the impact of
promotion on community prescribing in developing countries. All
of them show irrational prescribing based on the use of promotional
material.

practitioners in the Philippines. The Drug Monitor 1992;7:15-27.

dispensing in Karachi. JPMA 1990;40:126-30.

I hope these are of some help.
