[e-drug] Effectiveness of Generics compared to brands

E-drug: Effectiveness of Generics compared to brands
---------------------------------------------

Dear Friends,
WARM GREETINGS.

In our college we are attempting to streamline the procurement and use of
drugs for our on campus clinic. This has been an offshoot of the recent
study on "Prescription Audit of Outpatient Attendees" for MHSDP,
Maharashta Government in India.

My physician friend has strong reservations about use of generics in place
of trusted brands (Quite natural, is it not?). How ever he challenged me
that the generic product will always will be of doubtful efficacy compared
to the brand (he says the brands hit the target.). I have argued that when
the same company manufactures both generic and branded version of a drug,
they can not afford to leave the generic product of doubtful efficacy.

My purpose of writing this mail is are there any one with data on efficacy
officially tested for the brand and generic product of a drug by the same
company. If so can you please share with me, so that I can convince my
clinician friend.

Thanking you,

Cordially yours,
