E-drug: Ensuring ethical drug promotion (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello All,

It is interesting that WHO EDM is waking up to such misleading
advertisement. It also provides an insight into why some of us will
continue to object to the DTC of prescription only medicines. Big
Pharma must know the limits between patient education on diseases
and skewed presentations to swing the fortunes of a drug. Pfizer has
some adverts on erectile dysfunction [the one done by the legendary
soccer star, Pele] that I think is achieving the aim of raising
awareness on a medical condition. The Lipitor advert is in bad taste.
It is rather surprising that it has played for this long. The IFPMA code
of Pharmaceutical marketing practices, which Pfizer is bound-to
should look into this unethical practice and withdraw the offending
adverts immediately.
